Brentwood owes state $20 million in redevelopment funds after state supreme court refuses to hear appeal

SACRAMENTO — The city of Brentwood may owe Ca. $20 mill. in redevelopment money it has already spent, after the state Supreme Court declined Wed to take up the city’s challenge of a district-court ruling that the state’s clawback of redevelopment funds did not violate state law.

In 2013, Brentwood joined a number of other cities that have sued over the state’s 2011 decision to dissolve all redevelopment funds as a means of balancing the state’s budget.

But Brentwood Vice-Mayor Joel Bryant took a more optimistic attitude.
